Online Reporting of Nebraska reportable Antimicrobial-resistant Organisms (ORNAO)

Physicians, hospitals, and laboratories are required by law to submit reports of communicable diseases and other situations that pose a threat to public health. Reports should be submitted by mail, telephone, fax or other secure electronic system. Nebraska reportable antibiotic-resistant organisms are reported monthly using a tabular summary reporting form.

Online Reporting of Nebraska reportable Antimicrobial-resistant Organisms (ORNAO) provides laboratories a convenient way to send reports. In addition, laboratories will be able to view their submitted reports and generate specific reports based on selected search criteria. All reports can be downloaded in Microsoft Excel format.

ORNAO will allow the state and participating county health departments to monitor reporting of antimicrobial-resistant microorganisms through Internet. The health departments can monitor and download all reports of laboratories in their respective areas of jurisdiction, as well as receive notification automatically via email when vancomycin-intermediate/resistant Staphylococcus aureus (VISA/VRSA) isolates are reported. Through ORNAO, laboratories can be reminded via email to submit monthly reports.
